Powers can be given to your spouse, a family member, a trusted friend, a professional such as a lawyer or accountant, or any other capable adult. This way, their attorney can manage important and recurring tasks while the donor is incapacitated.Īn Enduring POA can also be made as a Springing Power of Attorney-which means the document goes into effect on a certain date or upon a certain event (e.g., as soon as the donor becomes incapacitated) instead of when signed. Someone with an Enduring Power of Attorney is likely to grant broad authority over the different areas of their life. Once an authority deems you mentally incapacitated, you cannot revoke a Power of Attorney.
